Jim Ellis, DDS

Always happy with the care I get from Dr. Ellis and his staff. My family and I, have been going to Dr. Ellis for several years now and have always received great care.

Dr. Jim Ellis is a seasoned dental professional with over 22 years of experience and a deep commitment to modern, patient-first care. After completing his undergraduate studies at BYU, he earned his dental degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2004. Dr. Ellis is a firm believer that the best results come from a collaborative team approach, where the dentist, staff, and patient work together as equals. He strives to maintain an office environment that is professional and straightforward, utilizing the latest digital scanning technology to ensure a comfortable and efficient experience. For Dr. Ellis, the most rewarding aspect of his career remains the moment a patient sees their transformed smile and truly loves the results. At the heart of Dr. Ellis’s practice is a dedication to listening and education. He understands that every patient is unique and approaches treatment planning by first understanding the individual’s specific needs and concerns. To help manage dental anxiety, he prioritizes transparency, taking the time to explain procedures thoroughly and answer questions so that patients feel empowered rather than overwhelmed. When he isn’t at the office or attending continuing education courses, Dr. Ellis is likely spending time with his wife of 30 years, their five children, and two grandchildren. An avid fan of the outdoors, he enjoys staying active through snow skiing and hiking.

Elise Kobe, DDS

Very friendly staff. Dr Kobe was personable and involved me in my treatment plan. They were able to work with my busy schedule to find a time that would work for me.

Dr. Elise Kobe believes that exceptional dentistry starts with a foundation of trust and a personal connection. Since earning her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Creighton University in 2008, she has spent over 18 years providing comprehensive, patient-centered care. Her approach is rooted in the belief that oral health is a vital gateway to overall well-being. Dr. Kobe is passionate about educating her patients on how a healthy smile contributes to long-term physical health, and she takes great pride in seeing her patients make positive lifestyle changes that improve their confidence and longevity. Throughout her career, Dr. Kobe has been dedicated to serving a diverse range of patients, including those in underrepresented communities, with a focus on improving access to high-quality care. She thrives in a collaborative environment where she can work seamlessly with specialists to provide the most precise and coordinated treatments possible. She is a strong advocate for modern dental technology, such as digital scanners that replace traditional messy impressions, making visits more efficient and comfortable. Beyond her professional life, Dr. Kobe leads an incredibly active and fulfilling personal life. She has been married for over 20 years and, together with her husband, is raising eight children, seven girls and one boy. An avid athlete, she has completed over 10 marathons and loves being “on the run,” whether she’s managing a busy household or exploring the trails. When she isn’t in the office, you can find her outdoors with her family, running, hiking, camping, skiing, or snowshoeing, bringing that same energy and dedication to her community that she brings to her patients every day.

Melanie Katz, DDS

I had some nerves going in, but Dr. Katz was great. She’s super down to earth, didn’t judge me, and actually took the time to explain everything so I understood the “why” behind my treatment. You can tell she really knows her stuff, and made me feel like I was in excellent hands. Definitely the most relaxed I’ve felt in a dental chair.

Dr. Melanie Katz is a patient focused clinician who combines a background in emergency medicine with a creative, hands on approach to dentistry. A graduate of Roseman University College of Dental Medicine, she also holds a degree in Health Science with a concentration in Emergency and Critical Care. Having spent eight years as an EMS professional, Melanie brings a unique perspective to the chair, emphasizing the vital connection between oral health and overall wellness. She specializes in creating a relaxed, judgment free atmosphere where complex procedures, particularly in her area of interest in oral surgery, are handled with transparency and clear communication. Beyond her clinical work, Melanie is a former college roller hockey player and NHL graphic designer who remains deeply committed to community service as a CPR instructor and advanced EMT for a local Utah fire department. She prioritizes digital dentistry to ensure high accuracy and a smooth experience, always aiming to make dental visits feel more like a comfortable conversation than a clinical appointment. Whether she is designing a personalized treatment plan or serving as a first responder, Melanie is dedicated to building real relationships and helping her patients leave the office with both a healthier smile and a boost in confidence.

Dr. Luis Franco - Endodontist

I had a retreat root canal done yesterday, and have had zero pain afterward. Dr. Franco has the nicest bedside manner and has the greatest skills to go along with kindness. I highly recommend using him for your endodontics!

Dr. Franco is a veteran of the United States Navy where he served as an officer. He received his degree in Flight Operations from Westminster College, DDS from the University of Utah and completed his residency in Endodontics at Boston University. He is a member of the American Association of Endodontics, the American Dental Association, the Utah Dental Association and Aircraft Owners and Pilot Association. Dr. Franco has a passion for educating others about patient care and the incredibly interesting world of endodontics. In his free time he enjoys spending time with his family, reading, swimming and learning how to play the piano and electric guitar.

Dr. Shaun Heward - Oral Maxillofacial Surgeon

I had oral surgery today. I had anesthesia and everything went perfectly. The whole team was great! Dr. Shaun Heward, the surgeon, is so caring and kind. He called me twice before my surgery to explain everything that would be done and to answer my questions. It really put me at ease.

Dr. Shaun Heward was born and raised in Sandy, Utah. He attended Alta High School and completed his undergraduate at University of Utah. During this time he worked as a dental laboratory technician making crowns and bridges. He then moved to Lexington, Kentucky where he completed dental school at the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry. Following dental school, he began medical school at the University of Michigan Medical School. While at the University of Michigan, he also completed his internship in general surgery, residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and was a chief resident in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr. Heward has extensive surgical training in corrective jaw surgery (orthognathic surgery), tumors/cysts of the jaws, face trauma, dental implants, wisdom teeth removal, cleft lip and palate, face reconstruction and bone grafting. He is delighted to have moved back to his home state of Utah and working with Platinum Dental Services. He also has a passion for serving others abroad and continues to treat less fortunate patients on mission trips overseas. When Dr. Heward is not at work he enjoys camping, fishing, hunting, biking, shooting, gardening, wood working and cooking.

Dr. Michael Reid - Orthodontist

Dr. Reid is an excellent orthodontist who truly listens and explains everything clearly. His friendly approach and attention to detail made my experience easy and comfortable. I highly recommend him.

Dr. Reid grew up in a family of six children, in Irvine, California. After serving a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Texas Fort Worth Mission, he attended Brigham Young University. Upon graduating from Brigham Young University with a degree in Nutritional Science, Dr. Reid attended the number one dental school in the country: the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. While at Michigan, he had the privilege to travel to Africa to provide dental services and oral health education to the underserved adolescent population of rural Kenya. Immediately following dental school, Dr. Reid moved to the deep south to complete a hospital-based residency program for an Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) in Jackson, Mississippi. Dr. Reid then moved to Georgia to complete his orthodontic specialty training at the Georgia School of Orthodontics. In his free time, you can find Dr. Reid spending plenty of time outdoors. He is an avid and competitive soccer player, frequent hiker, and aggressive snowboarder. He loves golfing, going to the beach, playing the guitar, and rooting for BYU and Michigan sports teams. Dr. Reid is married to his lovely wife, Lauren, and together they have five beautiful children—three girls and two boys.

Dr. Devin Christiansen - Periodontist

Very thorough and professional. Dr. Christiansen took a lot of time explaining things to me. Alyssa was great while trying to contact and figure out my insurance. The whole staff was very helpful. I will definitely be going there again.

Dr. Devin Christiansen was born and raised in Bountiful, Utah. He attended Weber State University where he got a degree in Microbiology. He received his Doctorate in Dental Medicine from the University of Louisville, and went on to specialize in the field of Periodontics and earned a Masters Degree in Oral Biology at the University of Nebraska. He is currently an associate professor at the University of Utah School of Dentistry. Outside of dentistry, Dr Christiansen enjoys spending time with his wife Halee and 3 kids – Davis, Madison, and Janie.
